Cold Mess - Touch Version

Project type

illustration, video song

Date

India

This cover song explores the lack of emotional closeness and physical affection in many friendships between men—particularly those from upper-caste and middle-class backgrounds. It reflects on how social norms and upbringing shape the way male friendships are formed and maintained.

Often, these friendships don't include open expressions of care—like deep conversations, comforting gestures, or emotional support. Physical affection is usually limited to quick handshakes or awkward hugs, and showing vulnerability is often discouraged.

The song encourages men to reflect on what they might be missing—growth, connection, and support—by staying within these silent rules. It also questions why emotional needs are often expected to be met only by women, whether through friendships or romantic relationships, sometimes placing an unfair burden on them.

In the end, it’s a call to rethink what we’ve been taught about masculinity and to open up more space for honest, caring, and emotionally supportive friendships—without shame or fear.
