Making Worlds with Others is a school-wide initiative at the Royal College of Art (RCA) that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and critical engagement among students. The unit encourages participants to explore mutual exchange—of ideas, experiences, and perspectives—with the goal of creating meaningful, critically engaged projects that interact with the wider world. A key emphasis of the unit is on public engagement and knowledge exchange, inviting students to reflect on how their creative practices can have real-world impact.
As part of this initiative, our group set out to design a fun and inclusive two-hour workshop aimed at helping everyone involved learn something new—be it a skill, a story, or even a language. We believed that the success of the workshop would depend on recognizing ourselves as a community of creatives coming together with another community of creatives to learn from one another.
We had the opportunity to collaborate with Accumulate, a London-based charity that offers creative workshops for young people experiencing homelessness. Accumulate uses art, photography, creative writing, and other disciplines to enhance well-being, build skills, and increase confidence—ultimately supporting participants in moving toward education, training, or employment.
Together, we facilitated a workshop for guests from Accumulate, creating a shared space of learning, creativity, and mutual inspiration.
