“You love me, do you?
Even though you belong to another caste. But do you know
Our elders do not even cremate their dead at the same place.”

Lal Singh Dil (1943–2007) was a revolutionary Punjabi poet and activist known for his powerful and raw poetry that voiced the struggles of Dalits, the working class, and the marginalized. Born into a Ramdasia (Dalit Sikh) family in Ludhiana, Punjab, he joined the Naxalite movement in the late 1960s, which deeply influenced his writing. His poetry is marked by themes of caste oppression, poverty, landlessness, and rebellion, often blending personal pain with political resistance. Despite facing poverty and state repression, Dil remained committed to his ideals. His notable works include *Sattharhan* (The Seventies) and *Bahut Saare Suraj* (Many Suns).
